On October 29th, as one of the series events of the 2025 Sichuan Provincial Cultural and Tourism Development Conference and the 11th China (Sichuan) International Tourism Investment Conference, the "Splendid Tianfu · Comfortable Sichuan"  Cultural and Tourism Integration Theme Exhibition officially opened in Zitong County, Mianyang City. Yanbian Lisu Ethnic Costumes made its appearance at this theme exhibition, and the elegant Lisu costumes once again showcased the charm of intangible cultural heritage (ICH).

At the exhibition site, models walked gracefully to the rhythm, wearing brightly colored Lisu costumes. They clearly demonstrated the complete process from hemp spinning and dyeing to embroidery and garment making, allowing visitors to intuitively feel the inheritance context of this provincial-level ICH craftsmanship. With its strong ethnic customs and exquisite ICH techniques, Yanbian Lisu Ethnic Clothing has become a striking calling card interpreting the charm of Sichuan's diverse culture. Known as "cultural epics worn on the body", these costumes carry the elegance of Yanbian's landscapes and the millennium-old wisdom of the Lisu people, radiating the unique charm of the integration of tradition and modernity on the exhibition stage.

The costumes exhibited this time include not only classic styles that adhere to traditions but also fashionable interpretations that integrate innovation. On October 1st this year, as a representative of the "Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Sichuan · Hundred Cities, Hundred Arts" provincial-level ICH project, Yanbian Lisu Ethnic Clothing made a stunning appearance at the Festival Mode et Culture Sino-Français 2025. It jointly presented a grand show with Parisian haute couture brand INCLOVER, kicking off a unique "Chinese style" along the banks of the Seine River and showing the world a new expression of Oriental aesthetics.

"The exhibits this time combine the texture of fireweed linen with modern fabrics, print the'sunflower' totem on the costumes, and transform traditional pleated skirts into 'flowing sculptures' through three-dimensional cutting," introduced Gu Yan, President of the Yanbian Lisu Ethnic Research Association. This innovation aims to "bring ethnic costumes back to life and wear traditional culture on the body", enabling ancient craftsmanship to resonate with contemporary fashion and shine brightly.

From the ICH Workshops in the deep mountains of Yanbian to today's exhibition stage, the appearance of these costumes is not only a cultural display but also a vivid footnote to Yanbian's "ICH +" integration strategy. Relying on the cultivation of 2 ICH Inheritance and Learning Centers and 7 ICH Workshops, Yanbian has upgraded Lisu ethnic clothing from a handicraft to a cultural industry. It not only protects the manual skills of ICH inheritors of all ethnic groups but also becomes a cultural force empowering rural revitalization. (Text/Photos by Zhu Maolan)
